Antique Staffordshire flatback statue showing a girl with a swan and a laden basket.
Here we have a wonderful old antique showing a girl in a tartan dress with a swan at her feet and a laden basket in her hands. It is a spill vase and has a spill holder to the side fashioned as a tree. The overall condition is good for its age, it probably dates to around the mid nineteenth century, but she does have some damage to her nose as you can see in the photos and there is a chip to the base at the back. There is also some minor paint loss and general wear here and there.
I have said Staffordshire but as this lady is dressed in Scottish attire I did wonder it could be a piece made in Scotland, as some of these old pieces were. These flatback figures were produced with a flat back to be able to sit comfortably on your mantlepiece.
A super old antique statue that would be ideal for anyone with an interest in antique decor.
