Antique Stanhope dip pens. Pair of old dip pens.
Here we have a pair of antique pens made from bone and metal.
One is a souvenir from Lourdes and this one is a Stanhope pen with the little lens built into the shaft. If you look through the little lens you can see images of Lourdes which is quite amazing really. Stanhopes were invented in 1857 in France by René Dagron, there is quite a lot of information on the internet which is well worth a read.
The Lourdes pen also has an image of the Virgin Mary on the top and Lourdes written on the shaft, these are both quite rubbed.
The other pen has just a small image fitted into the top which shows Le Mans but does not have a viewing lens. Both pens show signs of wear and the Lourdes pen has a slight crack at the top just to the right of Mary‘s head which you can see in the photos.
A fabulous little pair of dip pens that would enhance any collection.
