French antique brass iron.
Here we have a wonderful old French sad iron made of brass.
It is designed I believe to take hot coals inside.
There is a little lever on the top at the front which moves from side to side and enables the top to lift up on a hinge allowing you to place your hot coals inside and proceed with your ironing.
I don‘t think it would be very advisable to use it these days for it‘s original purpose but you could use it for storing bits and bobs and it would of course make a fabulous paperweight for your desk.
It is in it‘s own right a beautiful decorative object, it has a lovely floral pattern on the side.
The overall condition is good, there is some tarnishing to the inside and a little light rust to the hinge pin, which you can see in the photos but for it‘s age it is in remarkably good condition.
A fabulous old antique iron that would make a great addition to any collection.
