French antique oil painting of seaside scene dated 1908. Here we have a charming old painting showing people and boats on a beach. The painting is signed and dated "Chevereaux 1908". The painting comes in a frame as you can see but the frame has a few condition issues. You can see on the front in the top right hand corner it has been quite crudely filled and overpainted and there are gaps to the corners of the frame in other areas. On the back you can see where someone has added two pieces of wood to strengthen the frame. They have also added staples to the corner joins on the back to help strengthen the frame. I do believe though that the frame is probably original to the painting and it does suit it well. The painting itself is in good order for its age with just the usual crackling to the paint surface that you find on old pieces like this. The surface of the painting could also do with a light clean. There is also one small repair to the back of the canvas which you can see in the photos, this will have been done many years ago. A charming antique painting and a fabulous piece of original French wall art. A lovely antique oil painting that would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
