French antique carved wooden plaque showing Mary and Jesus.
Here we have a very rare and interesting item in the form of a carved wooden plaque. At first we thought this was depicting Joseph holding the baby Jesus because of what seems to be Lillies that the figure is holding in their right hand but we have since found that Mary also can be seen holding Lillies. The carving is very naive and we believe could be very old indeed. The wooden carved image is attached to a shield shaped plaque with simple grooved decoration.
We have not had a piece like this before and believe it to be quite rare.
The overall condition is good, with just the usual sort of wear that you would expect to see on an aged item such as this.
A fascinating and unique piece of French religious decor that would enhance any collection and be a real talking point in the home.
