Here we have a charming original French painting of the Hambye Abbey which is a beautiful ruined abbey here in Normandy.
The painting is signed in the bottom left corner, but it is quite hard to read. There is also a date which looks like 1939 but it is quite faded so it is hard to be sure. This is quite an old canvas so I would think it is going to be early twentieth century.
I have visited Hambye abbey, it is the most beautiful romantic spot set deep down in a lovely valley with a little river running through with steep banks of trees rising up out of the valley, a really tranquil place.
This picture really captures the romantic feel of this wonderful ruined abbey.
The overall condition is good there is very faint scratch in the top left of the picture but it is very minor and hard to see.
Sympathetically reframed it would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
A beautiful French painting ideal for adding a touch of the French country to your home decor. This painting with the stunning medieval architecture would not look out of place in a dark or light academia aesthetic.
