French antique jewellery box. Antique keepsake box.
This charming little box is decorated very much in the French classical style and stands on four little legs.
It is small in size so please check the dimensions carefully. It is made of spelter.
This beautiful little jewellery box has a plaque on the front which reads Camp de Sissonne, this is a famous military camp in Northern France which was set up in 1895, so this piece was probably bought originally as a souvenir item from Sissonne. I would think it dates back to the early twentieth century.
The overall condition of the box is good, there is some wear and rubbing to the metal here and there, but nothing too bad. It does have a tiny crack to the metal which you can see just above the plaque at the front but this is only minor and certainly does not detract from the splendour of the piece. There is some wear to the green silk lining but no more than you would expect from an aged piece like this.
A fabulous little jewellery trinket box that would be great for adding a touch of French chateau style to your boudoir.
