French antique andirons. Pair of French andirons.
This is a charming old pair of French fire dogs, or chenets in iron.
These andirons are figural and depict ladies or young girls, dressed in bonnets with beaded necklaces around their necks.
These andirons are designed to have your log grate sitting nicely on the top of them to make a lovely decorative feature in your fireplace.
They are lovely and solid and will last for many years to come.
They have been well used in their lifetime and as you can see they have many years accumulated soot engrained into the surface.
We have cleaned them up to some degree but they still retain some level of soot taken up over many many years of use. I think you could clean them over and over again and there would always be some remaining blackening. There is also rust present on the surface and as you can see underneath there is quite a lot of rusting.
The arms that come out the back have rusting from their years in the fireplace but are still strong and solid.
A fabulous old pair of dogs that would grace any fireplace and bring a feel of French chateau style to your home decor.
