French antique Saint Anthony statue. French antique bisque porcelain statue of Saint Anthony. here we have a splendid statue in porcelain showing Saint Anthony holding a child. I believe that Saint Anthony is the patron saint of lost things. It is very nicely modeled and is in good condition for its age with just some minor paint losses and rubs here and there. He is wearing a red sash over a blue dress and holds a lily in his left hand. there is some gilt decoration to the base. I would say this is quite an old statue probably dating to the early twentieth century or possibly late nineteenth. when we found it it was almost black and took quite a lot of cleaning. I imagine it was probably stood on the same Norman fireplace for many many years. A charming religious statue that would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
