Gouache is a water based medium quite similar to watercolour. It has an opaque appearance.
This painting is under glass and is well protected. It retains its rich colours and is a really interesting scene with a lady filling a water jug from a large container with another lady sweeping up just outside the door. It is a very rustic scene with the cobbled floor and hams hanging from the ceiling. It has the feel of the old Dutch paintings with those country interiors.
I can see no signature on the painting. I would say that this little picture probably dates to the early twentieth century.
A charming little painting that would make a splendid addition to any home decor.
