Antique mahogany tea caddy. 18th century Georgian tea chest.
Antique mahogany tea caddy. 18th century Georgian tea chest.
Georgian mahogany tea caddy. This is a wonderful example of an 18 century tea caddy. Although bought in an antique shop here in France, we believe this tea caddy to be English and to date to the late 18th century. It is in the traditional Georgian Chippendale style and is revered in the most wonderful mahogany with a deep rich patina that can only develop over hundreds of years. It has a swan neck handle to the top and a nice decorative escutcheon to the front. As you can see it comes with its original tin containers inside which is quite unusual, often these containers go missing over the years. A really fabulous antique tea caddy that would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
Condition: The overall condition is good for its age. There has been a repair in one place I think on the lid at the front on the left hand side but this is quite hard to spot. There is some minor damage to the lid on the back right hand side and a screw missing from the hinge in the same area, I have tried to show this in the photos but again this is nothing too bad for its age. There is no key with the caddy and I think at some point it probably had little bracket feet as there are some small holes in the area where they would have been which again you can see in the photos of the base.
