Here we have a really interesting old green bottle. It dates back to the Victorian era and comes from England. These bottles were used for carbonated drinks and this bottle still has the marble in place. It is a very clever design by a chap called Hiram Codd of Camberwell in London He designed it in 1872. The bottles were filled upside down and the marble was pressured against a rubber seal to keep the contents fizzy. The bottles are becoming quite rare. Many were smashed by children in the old days to retrieve the marbles from the neck.
This bottle has writing to the front which is quite hard to see in the photos. It has written "South western mineral water co; Ltd" with Bournemouth at the base.
The overall condition is good, we can see no chips or cracks.
A lovely old bottle that would make a great addition to any collection and really enhance any home decor.
